Our research focuses on brain mechanisms involved in directing attention, retaining memories and driving motivation. We study how attention, memory and motivation work in healthy people and how they break down in patients with Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, stroke and vascular dementia.
Why do we sometimes fail to pay attention or forget things over seconds? Why do some people make impulsive decisions whereas others simply can't be bothered to act? Our research focuses on attention, memory and motivation in health and disease. These cognitive functions can go awry in many brain diseases, leading to devastating consequences. Our aim is to understand the mechanisms underlying these problems and develop treatments for them.
